Our History

Mr. Khoo Kay Chai
(1976 – 1995)

He was the first local principal in Singapore Polytechnic and was a principal who has the students’ welfare close to his heart. He has instituted several schemes to generate spirit de corps among the young men and women and to create a unique SP identity.

For instance, in 1979, he set up the Continuing Education Department to look after the affairs of part-time students and improve the quality of their student life. He was also the first to recognise that SP graduates would have aspirations beyond the Polytechnic diploma.

In 1992, he started the Singapore Polytechnic Ambassadorial Relations Corps, fondly known as SPARC around the campus today. This comprises of a group of SP students who are specially groomed to be ambassadors at major functions such as National Day Parade (NDP), Chingay and so on.

Principal Khoo Kay Chai retired after 19 years at the helm, and has given SP many dear memories.
